International Affairs Building Room 411
QMSS seminars are open to the Columbia University and ISERP communities. Prospective students to the program are invited to attend, as well.
QMSS Data Analysis: G4015
January 21, 2008 from 10:30 AM to 1:30 PM
International Affairs Building Room 411
The data analysis course, taken in the spring semester, covers specific statistical tools used in social science research. The course emphasizes the use of statistical software packages in analysis. Students will gain experience with linear regression, probability models, statistical graphics, polynomial models, analysis of multivariate outcomes and repeated measures, and logistic regression. Prerequisite: introductory statistics course that includes linear regression.

QMSS Survey Methods G4060
January 23, 2008 from 3:10 PM to 5:00 PM
International Affairs Building Room 270B
This course focuses on concepts, techniques and issues involved in
scientifically collecting data by asking people questions. But these can be
neither grasped nor used well without also understanding the sociology and
politics of their epistemology. I hope students will leave the course with a
grasp of what specifically is involved in carrying out a survey, the
theoretical foundations of survey methods, how the work of any particular
survey you may do is socially grounded, and how this social location must then
be entered into carrying out a survey.
