Pierre Lucien

Dr. Pierre Lucien is an Adjunct Assistant Professor for the Quantitative Methods in Social Sciences (QMSS) program at Columbia University. He also works as Education Equity Fellow and Senior Researcher at the NAACP Legal Defense Fund’s Thurgood Marshall Institute. His research uses quasi-experimental econometrics to estimate the effect of policy changes on college access and educational attainment for students historically underrepresented in higher education. Dr. Lucien was formerly a Policy Analyst for the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. Prior to that, he was a Research Analyst at the Harvard Center for Education Policy Research. Dr. Lucien holds a PhD from the University of Oxford, master’s degrees from Brown University and the Ohio State University, and a bachelor’s degree from St. John’s University in Queens, NY. His research findings have been highlighted by media outlets including but not limited to the Boston Globe, Inside Higher Ed, NPR member station WBUR, and NBC affiliate WWLP.
